While SCI is targeting journals published in print or CD-ROM, SCIE is targeting Web version journals (most of SCI journals are included in SCIE journals).

SCI scheme is not abolished because countries that don’t have an infrastructure for web version journals prefer print versions and CDs.

The SCI is updated about every three months by evaluating only journals that are kept on a quarterly basis. Because the SCIE is a web, it is updated about once a month through ongoing evaluations by journal candidates.

This is an abbreviation of the Science Citation Index. It is an index of important journals among scientific journals around the world.
It is used as a basis for classifying prominent journals because the level and reliability of scientific journals are difficult to evaluate with each paper.
Thomson Reuters evaluates and publishes a list of journals each year. Also, they select journals by evaluating not only the number of citations but also how many of them are cited in the most diverse and credible journals. The journals listed in the SCI are guaranteed to a certain level, and the published results show that they contain the latest research results that have been thoroughly reviewed by experts in each field.

It means that you cannot view the material as the digital version for a certain period of time, even though a journal or book is published as a print version.

The embargo period is usually within the range from six months to one year and six months. If there is an embargo in the particular journal, library displays its’ coverage.

Because the medical library subscribes to a wide variety of databases, even if the journal you are looking for is embargoed, it may be available in other databases.

Therefore, please check the scope of all the journals provided by the library by searching the journal’s name from the medical library website(Resources>>eJournals>>A-Z).

The Impact Factor of the journal can be found on the Journal Citation Reports(JCR) homepage.

Impact Factor is an indicator of the influence from a journal by measuring the average number of citations of articles listed in a specific journal. JCR Shortcut >>

* How to calculate Impact Factor: the total number of citations, received in that year, of articles published during the two preceding years / the total number of articles published during the two preceding years.

Journal titles are abbreviated if quoted from MEDLINE. Or, conversely, you know the full name of the journal, but sometimes you want to represent it in abbreviated form. In those cases, to find out both the Full Name and Abbreviation type of the journal, you can access the PubMed NLM Catalog (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nlmcatalog) and search the journal name or ISSN number.

You can find out how to use EndNote through Online Training page (http://libguide.snu.ac.kr/EndNote).

I you have any other problems or questions, please contact us via “Ask a Librarian” or call us at 02-740-8065.

EndNote is a bibliographic management program that allows you to individually store and manage various bibliographic information(such as titles, publishers, authors, and publishing years) of articles, books, and proceedings.

When writing an article, you can import a file saved in EndNote and add annotations/references at once. You can also edit and process references in various bibliographic styles (Vancouver, NLM, APA, etc.).
